SOUTHLAND DRIVE

How will Deerfoot Trail be improved in this area?

  • Weaving traffic between Anderson Road & Bow Bottom Trail and Southland Drive will be eliminated:
    • Currently, there is a weave zone on northbound Deerfoot Trail between Anderson Road & Bow Bottom Trail and Southland Drive. This means that vehicles coming onto Deerfoot Trail from Anderson Road and Bow Bottom Trail use the same lane that vehicles leaving Deerfoot Trail use to access Southland Drive.
    • This area will be reconfigured to eliminate this weave zone, which will improve safety and traffic flow, and increase the capacity of this important, high-volume area.
  • Additional lanes will be added to increase capacity on ramps with high traffic volumes and additional lanes will be added on mainline Deerfoot Trail.
  • The intersection at Southland Drive will be reconfigured to permit two lane access from eastbound Southland Drive towards southbound Deerfoot Trail and Anderson Road & Bow Bottom Trail.

Cross Section

Cross sections are only representative of the location shown on the plan view. Dimensions may vary along the corridor as the ramps are not necessarily parallel with section lines.
