2024 FALL CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

As we wrap up the 2024 construction season, the Deerfoot Trail Improvements team would like to share an overview of the work that has happened this year.

Construction crews continue to make strides in all project areas to set up foundations and substructures for the construction of new bridges and modified interchanges. This section focuses on highlights of 2024 progress at Southland Drive.

The Southland Drive area was not advanced as much as other improvement areas over the 2024 construction season. Crews still have a lot of work to go, and 2025 is expected to be a busy year for this location.

Sanitary Main Installation

In the Southland Drive area, crews have been busy working on the installation of a twin sanitary force main line along Deerfoot Trail over the summer months.

The ground beneath the road is called the subgrade, which is often made of compacted soil and gravel to create a dense foundation suitable for withstanding the weight of tens of thousands of vehicles a day for decades.
