ANDERSON ROAD

& BOW BOTTOM TRAIL

FALL 2024 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

As we wrap up the 2024 construction season, the Deerfoot Trail Improvements team would like to share an overview of the work that has happened this year.

Construction crews continue to make strides in all project areas to set up foundations and substructures for the construction of new bridges and modified interchanges. This section focuses on highlights of 2024 progress at Anderson Road & Bow Bottom Trail, and contains references to different types of bridge elements and structures. For ease of understanding, we’ve included a visual of the anatomy of a bridge.

Notable Milestones

Bridge demolition on Structure 3 was completed in April of 2024, an important milestone for the project. In the following summer months, construction efforts concentrated on pile installation for Anderson Road & Bow Bottom Trail’s Structure 3 intersection for both West and East Abutments as well as pier work for Section 2 of Structure 2.

The crews are also working on the Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall on the Structure 3 intersection, as well as pier construction on the Structure 1 intersection and grading at the Anderson Road & Bow Bottom Trail ramp.

A temporary detour was paved on the Anderson Road & Bow Bottom Trail intersection to allow for construction of the new structures.
