IVOR STRONG BRIDGE

Construction of in-river berms is required to allow access for the construction at the Ivor Strong Bridge.Berm construction requires the hauling of fill material (soil), stock piling of riprap rock, and excavation for the new piers.
WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Berm construction is anticipated to begin the week of August 15, 2024 and continue into October 2024.

There is a limited window within which in-river berms can be constructed, therefore, workers will be onsite 24 hours/day to deliver this work within the required timeframes. Mitigations including muffling of back-up beepers will be in place to reduce impacts to the public during overnight work.

Although best efforts will be made to minimize disturbance to the public, residents in nearby areas may notice increased dust and noise associated with material hauling and stockpiling during this time.

Why is this work being done at night?
The instream permits provided by DFO (Fisheries and Oceans Canada) have a time constraint on this type of construction, and overnight work will be needed to meet these time requirements.
Will the pathways in the area remain open?
Yes, the pathway will remain open during berm installation activities; however, intermittent short-term stoppages will be required over the course of this work to allow for transporting equipment and materials across the pathway.
Traffic control personnel will be on-site as required to direct construction traffic and pathway users safely through the impacted area. Members of the public are reminded to obey onsite signage and traffic personnel for their own safety, and the safety of those on site.
What has been done to minimize noise and dust disturbance?
To minimize noise disturbance all equipment has mufflers to control noise levels and backup alarms have been brought to the lowest decibel level possible to reduce noise.
Water trucks will be on site and will be used to mitigate dust during the hauling of material.
Will there be any hauling of material done through the adjacent communities?
No, all material hauling will be done from Southbound Deerfoot directly into the construction area as shown on the map.

Please be mindful of and obey onsite signage and traffic accommodations. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to complete these complex, multi-year improvements.
