FALL 2024 PROJECT UPDATE

The improvements at 16 Avenue NE will improve safety and traffic flow by re-aligning the ramp to northbound Deerfoot Trail and adding an auxiliary lane between the 16 Avenue NE and 32 Avenue NE interchanges. Construction began this summer and is expected to be complete in 2025.

Progress in 2024

Substantial progress was made on the new ramp alignment to northbound Deerfoot Trail in 2024. Work on the auxiliary lane will begin in 2025.

The ground beneath the road is called the subgrade, which is often made of compacted soil and gravel to create a dense foundation suitable for withstanding the weight of tens of thousands of vehicles a day for decades.
